Don’t Go Broke Trying to Build an Online Business

Trying to Buy Success

How much are you spending to learn the tricks of the Internet marketing trade? Are you spending money left and right in hopes of finding the perfect internet business system? Do you have a habit of buying everything you can, hoping to find the one last piece of your profit puzzle?

You’re not the only one convinced that the only way to make money involves spending it in copious quantities. Countless people find themselves buying the latest and greatest new systems.

And that’s totally understandable. It’s perfectly reasonable to purchase new products and information to refine your already-successful business. Investing in new materials to stay on top of a quickly developing industry is reasonable. Making those purchases before you have a profitable business is a different matter, though.

Buying new tools to stay ahead of the games is very different from desperately making purchases in hopes of finding base-level success.

You want to be the smart investor. You don’t want to spend yourself into bankruptcy before you build a real business.

The Right Kind of Purchase

How can you avoid dumping too much cash into things you don’t really need? It starts by building a rock-solid foundation. If you ignore the bells and whistles, you’ll see the IM is really based on a few simple premises.

You must have a product you can sell. You need to have a strategy to sell that product. You need to secure traffic to the website you’ll be using to generate sales.

That’s really all there is to it. All of what you do needs to relate directly to one or more of those core basics.

That means that you should start by building a solid foundation on all three fronts. Anything you buy as you’re building your business needs to address the construction of that foundation.

Before you start reaching for details, tweaks, adjustments and tricks, you need to develop your core means of making online money. You can start experiencing real IM success after that foundation is in place. Then, you can pay for those new products with house money instead of digging a hole for yourself.

How to Build Your Foundation

Getting the core of your business in place doesn’t require a massive investment. This is what you need to do.

  • Develop a holistic understanding of Internet marketing. You need to learn how things work from someone who’s spent time in the trenches.
  • Focus on ways to boost traffic. Traffic is one of the three core needs mentioned above. It’s arguably the most important component. Without traffic, you can’t determine if your product is interesting or if you’re sales strategy is working.| Absent traffic, you can’t determine if you have the right product or a workable sales strategy. You need to put eyeballs on your pages right away.
  • Find a source of ongoing assistance. A smart ebook can be worth its weight in gold. Solid tutorial videos are a great idea. However, you’ll find more value in cultivating a good relationship with an experienced, successful IMer. You can become more efficient and successful when you’re on the receiving end of expert advice.
  • Don’t overexpose yourself. You need to build your foundation without putting too much of your limited resources at risk. Avoid overspending on the tools and information you need to build your business. Look for a business coaching program or mentoring arrangement that doesn’t cost more than you can afford.
