The Importance Of Good Customer Service

When it comes to business, the big companies can usually offer more product at a lower price than small businesses can offer; they can usually deploy more manpower and give customers more locations to choose from; they can spend more money on advertising than the small businesses can spend. But if you own a small business, you have one thing to offer that the big corporations can never hope to match: quality, personal customer service. Try as the “big boys” might, they can never ensure that every one of their employees will be the face of the business the company wants them to be. But with a smaller operation, you can turn your customers into repeat customers by providing them with a personal touch.

Every business likely knows the 80-20 Rule, which states that 80% of your business  comes from 20% of your profits; this, of course, means that repeat customers are your most valuable asset. Many small businesses think that product or storefront or advertising are more important than customers, and it is because of this that they fail. After all, you might not be able to spend as much money on advertising as you would like, but what you can do is turn your customers into advertisements!

Word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising there is, and not only that, but it costs you no money at all! What you have to remember as a small business owner is that every one of your customers has a voice, and each of them can use this voice to help you or hurt you. If you designate an inordinate amount of respect, attention, and care to your customers, they are likely to keep coming back, and they are also likely to tell their friends to come to you. But if you treat your customers as though they are nothing to you but a way to make money, they will find a new place to shop, and they will tell their friends to stay away from you.
